Baird Government plans to sell 27 TAFE sites this financial year to raise $63 million will seriously weaken the TAFE system, Federation President Maurie Mulheron said.
"This news comes on top of what the Baird Government has already done to TAFE: massive funding cuts; shifting public funds away from TAFE to private, for-profit colleges; sacking teachers; cutting courses and huge hikes in student fees," Mr Mulheron said.
"Now we see that they are intent to sell off valuable TAFE assets to private developers."
"Once the NSW community loses these valuable assets there will be even fewer opportunities for young people to engage in local training," he warned.
