The Union Movement’s so called ‘secret army’ of nurses and neighbours, teachers and tradies, mums and dads, students and retirees will be out in huge numbers across the nation this weekend talking about a positive plan for Australia’s future.
Across more than twenty marginal federal electorates this Saturday and Sunday, in every State and Territory, thousands of volunteers will be out doing what the Abbott Government isn’t – talking up Australian jobs, talking up health and quality accessible education, public services, a secure retirement and a fair go for all.
The national doorknock will be the biggest ever organized by Australian Unions and will take place from Launceston to Devonport, Brisbane to Cairns, Darwin, Adelaide, Melbourne, Penrith to Gosford and in the by-election hot bed of Canning in Western Australia.
Coming off the back of the Abbott Government’s two year anniversary that has only served to highlight their abysmal performance, the long list of broken promises and lack of direction for the country, we know Australians want something more.
Australian workers are concerned about the direction our country is going in under Tony Abbott and voters have lost faith in the Abbott Government’s ability to protect our living standards.
Whether it’s the inquiry into workers’ rights that has recommended cutting penalty rates, reducing the minimum wage and cutting unfair dismissal protections, selling out Australian jobs in the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement or for local shipbuilders, slashing 17,300 public sector jobs, $80 billion cuts to our health and education systems, or $100,000 university degrees that will price thousands of young people out of higher education, the Abbott Government hasn’t stood up for working Australians.
Our campaign is focused on how we can build a better future – the Abbott Government has shown they can’t be trusted to do that so we’ll be encouraging people to put them last on election day.
