Greek ship 'Pontonostos' arrived in Burnie on Wednesday to load logs for Forestry Tasmania.The International Transport Workers Federation claims that the seamen on board, who are Filipino and Greek, are owed about $105,000 in wages, are not being fed properly and have been working for 20 months without a break.
The ITF attempted to board the ship yesterday, but was unsuccessful. A decision will be made as to whether the arrest will go ahead, and if it does, the ship may have to stay in port for several months, according to ITF assistant co-ordinator Matt Purcell.
