The AMWU is challenging manufacturing bosses to sidestep John Howard’s plan to rip up the workplace rulebook.National secretary, Doug Cameron, floated a union-employer Board of Reference at a top-level meeting with Australian Industry Group (AIG) chiefs, this month.The Board of Reference would provide a clear avenue of dispute resolution and a channel for unions and employers to negotiate.
It would be able to settle industrial disputes after the Federal Government takes that power away from the Industrial Relations Commission.
Cameron warned manufacturing employers that an embrace of Howard’s agenda would mean more disputes and a collapse of trust across the sector.
