The ACT Liberal opposition have called on the Prime Minister to step-up his performance and do it quickly, but remain silent about the growing debate over Tony Abbott's future as PM.
Speaking in response to the Queensland election, ACT Liberal leader Jeremy Hanson said it was an issue his federal colleagues must deal with.
"There is no question that at the moment Tony Abbott needs to improve his performance," he said.
Mr Hanson said it was undeniable the election results in Queensland were tainted by the unpopularity of the federal Liberal Party.
"There's no doubt that in part this is a protest vote about the Federal Government."
He hoped the situation would be resolved by the time the next ACT election rolls around in 2016.
"There is a long way to go and I am hopeful that things will have improved by then," Mr Hanson said.
"It's going to be my challenge to make sure that people are voting locally and not making a protest vote against the Federal Government."
Acting ACT Chief Minister Simon Corbell said it was not as simple as that.
"As much as Jeremy Hanson would like to distance himself the bottom line is that they are the same Liberal brand," Mr Corbell said.
"Jeremy Hanson supports Tony Abbott and he supports Tony Abbott's budget, everyone in the Canberra Liberals is a supporter of Tony Abbott.
"And it's an agenda that the people of Queensland have rejected."
