Don't Frack Our Land Rights

We’ve just been up in the Northern Territory with young people and Traditional Owners and we wanted to give you an update on the campaign to ban fracking up there, and let you know how you can help.

Right now, 85% of the Northern Territory is under oil or gas exploration license. In just one of the basins alone there is more greenhouse gas pollution than the entire Adani Carmichael coal mine. If burnt it would end our chances at keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees.

For now, that gas is staying underground, but there are many companies who want to use dangerous shale gas fracking techniques to drill for it, right through precious groundwater systems.

Communities all over the Northern Territory are standing up to say no to fracking. You can build their power and support their fight by signing up to the For the Love of the Reef challenge today.

Already, the community of Borroloola have declared their country “frack-free” with 97.6% of people surveyed stating that they don’t want fracking, because they are concerned about the impacts on water, country, health and culture.

Scotty and Nick from Borroloola have been working with their community to raise their voices against fracking, and have even taken their message straight to the NT fracking enquiry. Too deadly.

You can support Nick, Scotty and Seed volunteers across the whole country to ban fracking in the NT by signing up to take the For the Love of the Reef challenge now.

Right now, we’re working on bringing together Traditional Owners from right across the Beetaloo Basin. To understand how all the songlines will be affected by fracking.

Climate change means the forced removals of our people from their countries as water dries up and heat waves get unbearable. It means the destruction of sacred Sea Country all across the country - from the Great Barrier Reef, to mangrove country, to important fishing areas. But we're not gonna let that happen.

Together, we can make sure the NT stays safe, beautiful and healthy for generations to come, but only if we ban fracking for good. Right now the NT needs your help. The Turnbull government is trying to bully states and territories into dangerous gas extraction - by threatening to bring the military in1, and withholding GST2. It’s just crazy, so it’s going to take the whole country to stand up to the Federal Government.

Be part of the powerful movement that will ban fracking in the NT. Together we can make sure that the NT government doesn’t bend to the whim of fracking companies like Gina Rhinehart and gas moguls alike.

Go without something you love for 2 weeks, starting this Monday. It could be coffee, chocolate, avocado, or something else (we’re giving up coke and pancakes!) to raise vital funds and awareness to make this campaign huge.

Your support will make sure hundreds of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people are trained to have conversations about shale gas fracking, important picture based posters and flyers about the dangers of fracking on country, and help bring together Traditional Owners from across the NT to protect country together.

Thanks so much for your support in this important fight, we couldn’t do it without you.

Larissa and Nicole
