Did you know the Liberal party had to lose FIVE federal elections before they committed to keeping the Medicare system? It took them over 10 years to realise that the Australian public highly value Medicare and any opposition to it would make them unelectable.
But that hasn’t stopped them attacking it at every turn, slashing hospital budgets, axing jobs and cutting essential services. They are eroding our public health system by stealth and introducing privatisation through the backdoor. But we know what game they are playing and we are up for the challenge. Sign the petition to stop the conservatives and keep Medicare public.
Now their latest ploy is in the form of a survey in which the government is asking us if we believe private health insurers should be allowed to cover GP visits and pathology tests. This is a dangerous plan that will be better for those who can afford private healthcare but will make life a lot worse for those who can’t.
The survey is just a ruse to give them an excuse to bring about more privatisation and put profits before patients.
Join us in calling on the Health Minister to commit to protecting our public healthcare system and to rule out any further privatisation.
If we don’t make our voices heard they will continue to do all within their power to turn our hospitals and health clinics into profit-making businesses that have no regard for the welfare of our poorest people.
We will all suffer if healthcare becomes a race to the bottom only focused on the bottom line. Join us in calling for an end to the ruse.
