Queensland's Heatwave record

More than a dozen outback Queensland towns have broken their records for the hottest March day.

Bollon43.2
Roma42.5
Mitchell 42
Injune41.7
St George  42
Miles41
Oakey 38.7
Surat41.7
Isisford44
Tambo42
Barcaldine42.2
Blackall42.6
Richmond42.7
Mt Isa41.4
Urandangi44.9

Hot, dry air has built up over the interior and northerly winds have pushed it further inland than normal for this time of year.

Roma, Mitchell, Injune and Miles all smashed their records and Richmond was 42.7 degrees Celsius which is well above the 42.3C record from 1924.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Diana Eadie said the temperatures were very unusual for this time of year.

"We've seen some really extraordinary temperatures," she said.

"Spare some thought for the people out there.

"I wouldn't want to be out there."

Today's heatwave spanned more than 1,500 kilometres with Saturday likely to also be uncomfortable.
