Unions NSW has called on the State Government to immediately halt its drastic funding cuts to public services after the revelation of a one billion turnaround in the budget position.
The Auditor General identified a series of data entry and accounting problems that are responsible for the massive budget turnaround.
Unions NSW Secretary, Mark Lennon, said the Government's case for deep budget cuts to health, education, emergency and other public services was now completely undermined.
"The Auditor General’s report has blown a massive hole in the Government's argument for savage cuts to the public services and jobs we all rely on in the NSW community," Mr Lennon said.
"The budget black hole that the Treasurer so often cites is a complete fiction.
"The Auditor General’s report has given the Treasurer an opportunity to halt the cuts. The Treasurer needs to take that opportunity and put the scalpel back in the drawer.
"Community anger about these cuts was already red hot. If the Government now proceeds it will be white hot."
