Celebrate Centenary of 1917 General Strike – 3 May 2017

This year marks 100 years since the 1917 General Strike - the largest demonstration by unionised labour in Australian history.

More than 100,000 coal miners, train drivers and dockworkers fought for better working conditions and real wage growth. The strike lasted six weeks. Future Prime Minister Ben Chifley and future Premier Joseph Cahill were among the unionists involved.

To commemorate a century since this significant event, join us at the historic Sydney Trades Hall.

Renowned satirist John Clarke dies

Renowned satirist John Clarke died on Sunday. The New Zealand-born comedian and writer regularly appeared on Australian television from the late 1970s onwards.

Along with Bryan Dawe, he became a household name after writing and performing satirical interviews on Channel Nine's A Current Affair and later the ABC's 7.30 program, mocking everyone from Paul Keating to George Bush.

Liesl Tesch Wins Gosford By-Election – Libs in Disarray

Labor’s Liesl Tesch has tonight won the Gosford by-election and there are huge swings against the Liberals in Manly and North Shore!

Gladys Berejiklian and the NSW Liberals are in disarray today because of these results.

This weekend was a victory for the True Believers as well as for the people of NSW.

On behalf of Liesl and NSW Labor, thank you to those who handed out on polling booths, to those who doorknocked and phone banked for Labor; your support made all the difference on the ground.

Labor Leader Luke Foley and the Labor team will continue the fight against the Coalition’s plans for hospital privatisation, forced Council amalgamations, cuts to TAFE and schools and the offshoring of local manufacturing jobs.

Thank you for your ongoing support with this fight. We look forward to continuing to step up our efforts in the lead up to the 2019 NSW State Election.
