The peak body for working people has endorsed the ALP platform for workplace relations, which sets the country on the road to fair pay rises and more secure jobs.
Bill Shorten has listened to working people. He has heard the calls for more secure work. He has heard that our pay rises aren’t keeping up with the cost of living. And we are confident that a Government he leads can build solutions that work.
Over the past days this conference has seen announcements from the ALP that will enable the recovery of billions in stolen super under an ALP Government, as well as moving superannuation into the workplace jurisdiction.
The ALP has committed to change the Fair Work Act to deliver equal pay for women, ensuring that feminised industries are no longer underpaid, addressing one of the most pervasive forms of inequality in the country.
They have committed to implementing nationally consistent model industrial manslaughter reforms, so that employers who negligently cause the deaths of working people face criminal consequences, including jail time.
This conference has committed to abolish and replace the disgraceful and racist CDP in remote indigenous communities, to restore safe rates for truck drivers, and to support Australian shipping.
The conference has also re-written the rules on trade to put working people ahead of multi-national greed.
The Australian union movement will continue to advocate for a system that sees working people able to win fair pay and more secure jobs.
